SUMMARY:Parcours d'Artistes 2025
DESCRIPTION:We’re delighted to have received such a warm welcome from the Cultural Centre of Momignies (Centre Culturel de Momignies)\, our new hometown\, and to have been selected to take part in Parcours d’Artistes FCW 2025. \n\n\n\n\nThis wonderful event\, held every two years\, brings artists and citizens together across seven communes — Chimay\, Momignies\, Couvin\, Viroinval\, Sivry/Rance\, Froidchapelle\, and Beaumont — under the organization of the Fondation Chimay-Wartoise and its cultural partners. This year\, more than 300 artists will take part in the weekend celebration of creativity. \n\n\n\n\nDuring the event\, artists open their studios or exhibit in public spaces. \n\n\n\n\nWe’ll be opening our house-atelier (and taking the opportunity to combine it with a friendly house-warming for our friends and neighbours!) on November 15 & 16\, 2025 — Saturday from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM\, and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. \n\n\n\nCome discover some of our recent works\, see what has been inspiring us lately\, and share a moment of calm in the southern Belgian countryside — among forests\, fields\, and\, of course\, good local beers.\n\n\n\nThe exhibition features a series of Sara’s paintings and drawings in dialogue with my poetry\, created between 2020 and 2024. \n\n\n\n\nCreating constantly and learning from each other’s work is a wonderful source of inspiration. Much of art arises from art itself:) \n\n\n\nFor more details about the event and to find our artist pages\, check the official website:\n\n\n https://parcoursdartistes.com/artiste/marina-sara/\n\n\n\n https://parcoursdartistes.com/artiste/sara-marina/ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSee insights \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll reactions:\n3Christian Lauwers\, Hugo Henry and 1 other

SUMMARY:2025 Virtual Dada Festival: ETHICS CLEANSING
DESCRIPTION:The rare privilege of spending an evening on an online stage with an extraordinary group of international DADA artists and writers published in MAINTENANT 19: Journal of Contemporary Dada Writing and Art (2025). \n📖 MAINTENANT 19 is the latest in the ongoing annual MAINTENANT DADA journal series\, established in 2008 in New York by Three Rooms Press. For 19 years\, this independent publishing house has united artists and poets from around the world to elaborate on DADA’s original premise as an antiwar movement—a creative force that challenges\, provokes\, and reimagines. \nThis year’s edition features over 230 contributors from 30 countries and 6 continents\, exploring the urgent theme “ETHICS CLEANSING.” With searing cover art by acclaimed Romanian artist Adrian Ghenie\, MAINTENANT 19 continues DADA’s proud legacy of resistance through art. \nI’ll be reading my poem “A Human Loves the Beauty First\,” and Sara Maino will speak about her painting “Do-in Attento.” \nJoin us for the 2025 Virtual Dada Festival—International: Part 1\, presented by Three Rooms Press\, on Thursday\, November 6\, from 7:30–9:30 PM.Hosted by Peter Carlaftes & Kathi Georges (NYC).\n📺 Livestream: Three Rooms Press Facebook Group: https://fb.me/e/3QzS7E6yN \n#Maintenant19 #ThreeRoomsPress #DadaFestival #PoetryCommunity #Publishing #AntiwarArt

SUMMARY:'I Can Speak' at the Interdisciplinary Symposium: Polyphony and Silence

DESCRIPTION:15 May 2025 | STUK\, Leuven\, Belgium \nPolyphony and silence are vital to understanding voice and representation\, particularly in resisting dominant political and cultural forces. While polyphony unites multiple voices in diversity\, silence functions as both omission and resistance\, creating space for listening. These concepts confront nationalist and colonial narratives\, particularly in migration and marginalisation. \nFrom the enforced ‘culture of silence’ under dictatorship to the quietude of a village above a lake\, both can serve as profound spaces for meaning-making and self-expression\, as seen in our I Can Speak performance. This symposium explores how polyphony and silence intersect across literature\, art\, and activism to contest power structures. \nPart of the ERC Starting Grant project COLLAB\, which examines collaborative literary practices in migration and displacement. (https://collab-lit.com/about/)

SUMMARY:"I Can Speak" two-poets show
DESCRIPTION:“I Can Speak” is a poetry performance presented by Marina Kazakova and Sara Maino. Loosely autobiographical\, it incorporates poems composed and recited by the two authors\, along with their individual monologues. It unfolds around memories revisited by the two poets\, highlighting key moments in their lives that pushed them in discovering their own language — the language of poetry. \nThe show is dedicated to depicting the most crucial process that every person must undergo at some point – the process of “gathering” or “concentrating” one’s personality\, discovering the language of your own. \nThis is a journey through the thorns of the contexts in which we are raised towards the stars of self-discovery. \nMarina does this journey from the culture of silence\, the environment of the crumbling of the Soviet regime. It is in silence that poetry\, like prayer\, arose in her. In contrast\, Sara’s poetic journey originates from the meadow of Monte Velo in Trentino\, Italy – a mythical gathering place where stories are shared in a circle every Sunday.  The tales shared here connect the Trentino valleys to Sicily\, Africa to Lake Garda; they traverse the ocean\, reach America\, and then return to a thousand meters Velo. At the same time\, the meadow is encircled by  mountains that obscure the horizon\, creating a sense of confinement. \n“I can speak” is both the voice of two artists in a challenging time\, and the birth of a unique creative speech act.

SUMMARY:Next Stop: The XVII International Poetry Festival "Palabra en el Mundo"\, Venice\, May 26-27
DESCRIPTION:Sara Maino and I are invited to perform at the XVII edition of the International Poetry Festival\, “Palabra en el Mundo”\, held in Venice on the 26th and the 27th of May\, 2023. \nThe Venitian edition of Palabra en el Mundo\, linked to the Festival Internacional de Poesia de La Habana\, was born from an internationalist spirit and wants to build a World of Peace through the choral nature of Poetry. \nThe central theme chosen by the Cuban Organisers for the year 2023 is Peace. \nThe Festival will be hosted by the ‘Ateneo Veneto di Scienze\, Lettere e Arti’\, great 17th-century Baroque building\, which has been a centre for culture and debate for the past two centuries. \nThe Ateneo Veneto was formed in 1812\, by decree of Napoleon I on 25 December 1810. It was the Ateneo Veneto that saw the first stirrings of Venetian liberalism\, with speeches by Daniele Manin\, who was President of the short-lived Repubblica Veneta from 1848 to 1849\, and by Niccolò Tommaseo\, the editor of a Dizionario della Lingua Italiana in eight volumes (1861–74)\, of a dictionary of synonyms (1830) and other works. \nOriginally the building hosted the Scuola di Santa Maria e di San Girolamo “applicata alla giustizia” (devoted to justice)\, as stated in the official documents of the Venetian Republic. During the sixteenth century a number of great architects\, painters and sculptors of the Baroque and Mannerist schools embarked upon a major reconstruction of the Scuola; by the beginning of the seventeenth century the building was more or less as one sees it now. The art-collection of the Ateneo\, with works by Tintoretto\, Veronese\, Palma il Giovane\, Zanchi\, Fontebasso\, Longhi and Vittoria\, is of inestimable historic and artistic value. \nLast but not least\, the Festival partners with the International Center of Graphics in Venice\, which this year will  curate the anthology of the “Quaderni Della Palabra 2023”. \nMore information to be announced soon.

The result is a series of exhibitions featuring the works of artists and craftspeople that live or work in Koksijde. \n \n“The beginning of something”\, 2022\nAcrylic on canvas\n70x60cm\, Sara Maino \n\nThe exhibition ‘Da-No: Embryology of Inspiration’ presents the paintings and drawings of Sara Maino in dialogue with the poetry of Marina Kazakova\, produced between 2020 and 2022. \nThe exhibition is built as an art installation\, inviting visitors to an insight walk through the four elements. The spectator will experience: 1 Earth and trees\, green roots and rhythm; 2 Firebirds and battle\, Stravinsky and contrappunto; 3 Acqua armonia; 4 Air and transparency from crag. \nThe titles of these four sections refer to what\, at diverse senses levels\, you can see\, touch and listen at the Welnis Galerie: drawings\, canvas on wood of various sizes\, printed and sound poems and objects collected on the North Sea. They all show the personal style evolution from various abstract to figurative contents\, from black to colours\, to which the creation of poetic words is responding. \n \n“Tinylittlelost”\, Sara Maino 2021 \n\nThe two artists use various means to explore the way they inspire each other and test the origins of their inspirations. Sara utilizes natural materials such as charcoal collected during the long walks among the olive trees of her native land\, which is Arco\, near to the Garda lake in Trentino. The landscape and its elements have a deep strong influence on her perceptions: “I deal with emotions\, memories and feelings perceived through the strong relationship with nature\, especially trees\, herbs\, and with the sounds of each landscape I live in. They are my engine\, they mix with my disposition and I feel the urgency to express them through a personal music made of painting gestures on canvas\, sheets and wood by experimenting with a lot of materials”. \nLarch and chestnut wood branches’ powder\, limestone’s grind crystals\, azulene oil\, soil\, pigments\, leaves\, flowers\, sand are used by the artist to create site-specific paintings that reflect a relationship between the materials and their surroundings. During the pandemic\, Sara trained herself in the art of listening to nature’s inspiration and by practising oil paints\, acrylics\, pastels\, pens\, pencils\, watercolour pencils. \n“Creating constantly and learning from the work of each other is a good way to draw inspiration. Much of art arises from art itself’\, says Marina\, who lives in Belgium for 12 years and in Sint-Idesbald since 2020. “Koksijde is synonymous with art – as this town was and still is home of many extraordinary artists. Since the beginning of 20th century\, painters\, writers\, sculptors have flocked to this town\, seeking inspiration from its rugged and romantic landscape and unique natural light. I live in Sint Idesbald\, between ‘Paul Delvaux Museum’ and ‘Villa Kerkepanne’\, the house of the great Flemish writer Willem Elsschoot. You’ve been surrounded by history\, you’ve got the symphony of the sea\, you are in the lap of sand dunes and all your thoughts\, all your poetic ideas are milling around.” \n \nMarina Kazakova & Sara Maino \n\nThe juxtaposition of artworks by the two artists aims to provide visual-verbal suggestions and spontaneous correspondences\, rather than a deliberate reconstruction of the influence of one artistic work on another. The exhibition does not indeed operate through direct comparisons\, but rather allows references to intuitive pervasion of each other’s creativity. \nIn the exhibition\, sometimes their worlds gently coincide\, at other times they stand in striking contrast. Before the viewer\, they spread threads of hues and strokes that translate words and sentences\, unbend layers of possible bonds and show objects as traces of their common inspiration. \n“I have gained profound inspiration from Koksijde\, from the horizontal line of the sea\, shrimpers on horses breast-deep in the surf\, the neighbours who still remember the princess Marie-José of Belgium dancing at ‘La Guinguette’\, the quality of colours which so excites one’s sense of form”\, says Sara. \nThough concerned with form and abstraction\, their art is primarily about relationships: between the human and the landscape\, between the inner and the outer self\, and\, of course\, between people at an individual and social level. \nIf you are planning to attend the vernissage on 29th July at 7pm\, please\, confirm your presence either by phone (T. 058 53 34 40) or by filling in the following online form: www.koksijde.be/kazakova-maino \n  \n

SUMMARY:Marina Kazakova & Sara Maino at the 34th International Hopkins Festival
DESCRIPTION:Honoured to do an opening recital and present our two-poet performance with Sara Maino at the 34th International Hopkins Festival at Newbridge College Theatre\, Newbridge Co. Kildare\, Ireland. \n“A bright gem in the literary world!” according to Patrick Samway SJ\, this year the 34th G. M. Hopkins Festival is to be held. This is a very real triumph of poetry\, art and music over world-closing circumstances. Poet Desmond Egan\, the founder and moving spirit of the festival\, with his band of helpers and supporters have brought one of Ireland’s major summer cultural events through the Covid crisis to (hopefully) the renewal of “normality”. \nHopkins Festival 2022 Programme is now available\, and the full details can be found on-line by searching G.M. Hopkins Festival 2022. The Hopkins event is the only festival devoted to aspects of Catholic culture in its widest relations with poetry and spirituality in Ireland\, and deserves wide support. \nThe Hopkins Festival Opening will be presided over by UK Ambassador\, Paul Johnston\, a token of the continuing cultural relations between Ireland and its neighbours. \nAmong the events there will be a Traditional Irish Music Concert; a Creative Writing Workshop directed by Patricia Cleary Miller (Rockhurst University Kansas ); an international poetry reading; Barry McGovern appears giving his acclaimed interpretation of the works of Samuel Beckett (“An act for our times!”\, said one critic); and above all a multilingual translation workshop\, and with a fine international array of speakers. Come along on the day of your choice. \nMore on: https://www.gerardmanleyhopkins.org/\nDOWNLOAD THE FESTIVAL PROGRAMME

SUMMARY:Poetic encounter with trees
DESCRIPTION:It was an old dream of Joseph Brodsky\, the Russian-born poet\, American Nobel laureate and Italophile\, that scholars\, artists and writers should have a chance to live and work in Italy\, to draw inspiration from a culture that for half a century lay beyond their reach.\n\n\n\nFor many years\, I’ve also been dedicated to that dream\, and on April 2nd 2022\, I feel so privileged and blessed to perform in ‘PARCO MIRALAGO-SEEBLICK di Riva del Garda’ at the poetic encounter with trees organised by ‘Il Comitato Salvaguardia Area Lago‘ and ‘La Associazione “Bosco dei Poeti’.\n\n\n\nThanks to the organisers for the inspiration!

SUMMARY:A TALE OF...
DESCRIPTION:‘A Tale Of…’ brings together poets and musicians to demonstrate the power and beauty of the muse.\n\nThe centerpiece of this evening is ‘A Tale of Two’\, a 30-min multimedia poetry dialogue and meditation on love\, life\, art. SUMMARY:Mani Lit Fest (Greece)
DESCRIPTION:Glad to preliminary confirm my participation in the Mani Lit Fest in October 1-2\, 2021. \nI will be performing poetry live as well as presenting my new animation poetry film ‘On How the Palace Bridge Opens Up Its Hands” as part of my current PhD research on symphonism.  \nABOUT THE FESTIVAL \nA new event for the area\, Mani Lit Fest almost invented itself. It began one lazy day in summer 2018\, with a cup of coffee in the shady garden of Patriko Bar in Stoupa\, and a conversation with historical novelist Carol McGrath. A part-time resident of the area\, Carol had previously done a ‘Meet the Writer’ event at the bar\, where she had talked about her first novel ‘The Hand-Fasted Wife’ (book one of her Daughters of Hastings trilogy). Carol having just published her fourth novel\, ”The Woman in the Shadows’\, the talk turned to the possibility of her doing another similar event at the bar. Less than an hour later\, the idea had somehow grown into a full day event of workshops\, talks\, performances and literary cocktails\, and we realised it had turned into a mini literature festival. \nABOUT THE LOCATION \nThe Mani Peninsula (Greek: Μάνη\, romanized: Mánē)\, also long known by its medieval name Maina or Maïna (Μαΐνη)\, is a geographical and cultural region in southern Greece that is home to the Maniots (Mανιάτες\, Maniátes in Greek)\, who claim descent from the ancient Spartans. The capital citiy of Mani is Areopoli. Mani is the central peninsula of the three which extend southwards from the Peloponnese in southern Greece. To the east is the Laconian Gulf\, to the west the Messenian Gulf. The Mani peninsula forms a continuation of the Taygetos mountain range\, the western spine of the Peloponnese.

SUMMARY:StAnza\, Scotland's International Poetry Festival
DESCRIPTION:The town of St Andrews – where StAnza: Scotland’s Poetry Festival takes place every March – can easily claim to be the poetry capital of Scotland. Here’s why… \nAs well as hosting the only major Scottish international poetry event\, the town has many connections with poets of note – from Edwin Muir last century\, going back to Andrew Lang\, Robert Fergusson and William Dunbar. On top of this the principal Scottish poet of last century – Hugh MacDiarmid – lived in the town in the early part of last century. \nOn top of that\, the university is home to the UK largest building (other than libraries) dedicated to poetry. This is Poetry House\, part of the University of St Andrews School of English. This is home to 5 of the country’s leading contemporary poets – John Burnside\, Robert Crawford\, Douglas Dunn\, Kathleen Jamie & Don Paterson – all of whom work for the School of English and live in the vicinity of the town. \nI am happy to share the stage of 2021’s edition with dozens of talents from around the world. This year’s festival themes of ‘Make It New’ and ‘No Rhyme nor Reason’\, and a translated language focus of ‘Beyond the Iron Curtain’. \nI will conduct the ‘meet the Artist’ live webcast session on the 8th of March at 12:30 (UK Time) as well as premier my PhD research outcome\, a short film “On How The Palace Bridge Opens Up Its Hands” at the festival’s filmed poetry section ‘Poetry Loops’: https://stanzapoetry.org/festival/events/poetry-loops-4 \nLearn more on: https://stanzapoetry.org/ \nJoin StAnza 2021 on 6-14 March\, 2021

SUMMARY:3rd International Literary Festival - FLII Words of Fire - in honour of the victims of the forest fires
DESCRIPTION:Arte-Via Cooperativa\, based in Lousã\, launches the 3rd edition of the International Literary Festival of the Interior – Words of Fire\, in honour of the victims of the forest fires\, under the motto “Art and culture as revival of a region and of a people”. This festival is sponsored by the Presidency of the Republic\, and CCDRC\, Regional Delegation of Culture\, University of Coimbra\, RBE\, Caring for the Future Foundation and Casa Fernando Namora as associated partners. \nThis is an innovative event\, which will take place in twelve municipalities affected by the fires\, and intends to take books and writers to the most unusual and unpredictable places\, such as factories\, fields\, beaches\, churches\, markets\, locals where people work\, live and socialize\, the books go to meet people because they miss them too. \nDedicated to Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo and the 90th anniversary of her birth\, as well as Fernando Namora and his centenary\, and with the transversal theme “Caring for the Future”\, we intend to address crucial issues for the future of the world\, naming the environmental emergency. This festival brings together the municipalities of Castanheira de Pera\, Figueiró dos Vinhos\, Penela\, Arganil\, Tábua\, Ansião\, Alvaiázere\, S. Pedro do Sul\, the ADFP Miranda do Corvo Foundation\, and the Mário da Cunha Brito\, Penacova Foundation\, the public libraries and school library networks will be essential in the organization of FLII. \nTaking place between 13 and 17 June 2020\, FLII – Words of Fire aims to involve all development agents\, from all participating municipalities\, all local talents\, in all activities to be carried out simultaneously: training\, competitions\, lectures\, workshops\, readings\, book fairs\, shows\, multimedia\, performances\, installations\, exhibitions\, for and with all audiences of all age groups. \nThe concept behind this festival is that of a synergistic achievement\, catalysing the resources of the municipalities and other consortium member institutions\, making the best of each one\, in a joint effort to overcome adversity and\, in the name of the regenerative word\, where there are people there will be books. They will be in the most unexpected places\, at the hands of those who want to read them\, the Portuguese and foreign writers will go to the most amazing places\, the books and words will once again bring colour back into the blackness. \nIn this edition will be launched the book that was awarded in the 1st edition of the literary prize FLII – Words of Fire\, sponsored by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Centre\, and during the month of June there will be again a literary residence\, whose guests will be present in all municipalities. of the consortium. \nThis festival is already partnered by a number of international counterparts: Fraktura\, Croatia\, FliPoços\, Brazil\, Fliaraxá\, Brazil\, Galway Literary Festival\, Ireland\, Vilenica International Literary Festival\, Slovenia\, Salt World\, Cape Verde\, Book Worm\, China\, Moscow International Book Fair\, Russia\, Goa Arts & Literature Festival\, India\, Chepén Chepén Poetry Festival\, Peru\, among others. \n“We will hear the protest wherever it comes\, and in the chorus of dissonant and sometimes antagonistic aspirations we will pay attention to the silence of those who remain voiceless in society. The struggle we are fighting is against time – to push it\, as the poet says\, to meet future cities\, so that new paths are drawn so that they do not unnecessarily walk the path of others’ disenchantment. The place where we fight is here and far. It is our real\, concrete problems of the people we are\, but they are also the problems of the world from afar. Because the whole problem is today universal and planetary… we must accept to share the destiny of the whole humanity. » \nMaria de Lourdes Pintasilgo \nMore on: www.arte-via.org

SUMMARY:“The Earliest Time that Garbage Appeared on Earth is with the Birth of a Printing Press”
DESCRIPTION:It was Brussels Poetry Festival 2017. I entered the legendary Belgian Cafe “La Fleur en Papier Doré”\, the HQ of the Belgian surrealist movement in the 1920s\, where Magritte\, Paul Rouge and Marcel Lecomte were habitués. Now\, 100 years later\, somebody was rocking the room with contagious laughter mixed with “r” words in American accent. There they were: Kat Georges and Peter Carlaftes – the couple who runs “Three Rooms Press”\, a New York-based independent publisher inspired by dada\, punk\, and passion. \nThe couple began the publishing house in 1993\, when they started stapling chapbooks together with their and other people’s poetry. Since then\, they work directly with many of US’s most renowned poets\, including Jack Hirschman\, Carol Dorf\, Lorene Zouzounis\, Robert Duncan – to name a few. ‘Three Rooms Press’ authors include: William S. Burroughs\, Robert Silverberg\, Johanna Drucker\, Julia Watts\, William Least Heat-Moon and Meagan Brothers\, among others. \n“La Fleur en Papier Doré” \nBoth\, Peter and Kat\, aren’t only editors\, but primarily writers and performers. Peter\, born and raised in the Bronx\, the author of 12 plays\, including a noir treatment of Knut Hamsun’s Hunger. In addition to writing poetry\, Kat\, a San Francisco-born NYC-based poet\, has directed numerous Off-Broadway plays and curated hundreds of poetry readings all over the world. \nOur relationship evolved through time since the first encounter at “La Fleur en Papier Doré”. I’ve joined their poetry shows at Magritte’s Museum the next year\, then the ¡DADA! LONDON INVASION at the Horse Hospital in London\, and then in 2019 my happiest moments happened in San Francisco and New York when ‘Three Rooms Press’ did me the greatest honour I could imagine: flying to the US to perform poetry. \nMagritte’s Museum\, Brussels \nThe poets manage a journal of contemporary dada writing and art called “Maintenant”\, which have been featured and sold in museums such as MoMA in New York City and the BelVUE Museum in Brussels. \nWhile the giant publishing houses invest huge sums into ‘celebrity diaries’\, the commitment and passion of the smaller independent firms leave\, sometimes\, a larger footprints in the long term. ‘Three Rooms Press’ is not only a publishing house\, it is a community of people united by common ideas\, literary and aesthetic preferences. \nKat Georges\, Marina Kazakova\, Peter Carlaftes at Spec’s in San Francisco \nInitially\, ‘Maintenant’ journal draws inspiration from the ideas of Dada movement that arose as a reaction to World War I and the nationalism. In addition to being anti-war\, dada was also anti-bourgeois and had political affinities with the radical left. In the present-day context\, the edition’s orientation extends toward’s global history and culture\, the attention to the public purpose of the artist\, and the perception of art as a ‘driving force for social/environmental change’. \nThe 3 decades of interaction and confrontation of Three Rooms Press’s poets and visual artists from around the world reveals the powerful potential of this unique community\, who has been creating a rich and diverse art world during those years\, the fruit of which determine the possibilities for future poetic adventures and development. \nJack Hirschman\, Marina Kazakova at Spec’s\, San Francisco\, 2019 \nIn anticipation of Maintenant 14! This year’s edition is called UN-SUSTAIN-A-BULL-SHIT: reflections on the world which is hurtling in a direction that simply isn’t sustainable. The cover art pieces are all by Walter Robinson in a collage called “THESE ARE OUR CHILDREN” because regardless if our real children will carry on or not in this self-forsaken skin\, these products will remain our progeny. \nMaintenant 14 \nWhat makes us even more delighted is the news that the works of my two friends and mine are accepted for this year’s publication.\nBart Dewolf has put on paper an outstanding drawing entitled “Biodog”.\nSara Maino and me wrote a joint poetry piece called “The earliest time that garbage appeared on Earth is with the birth of a printing press”.  \n___________

SUMMARY:Try It Out Loud - SpeakEasy Spoken Word Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:THEY SOLD MORE THAN 200 PIANOS PER MONTH!\nMy next performance is taking place at a very peculiar place – the GC Pianofabriek in Sint-Gillis\, #Brussels. Here\, years ago\, my poetry journey started – thanks to Philip Meersman\, the big heart who invited me to Poetryfest.Brussels. \n100 years earlier\, the venue was a piano factory\, built by order of the German family Gunther\, piano builders who settled in Brussels in 1845. They were among the first to produce high-quality pianos with a metal frame and later\, by cross-mounting the ’cordes croisées’ of the strings\, they obtained a specific sound that made them win various prizes. Between the two world wars\, all Belgian music schools had Gunthers at their disposal.\nAfter the Second World War the factory was bought by the family Vanderelst. The company was one of the largest piano builders and repairers in Europe. In the peak years\, they employed more than 100 people and sold more than 100 pianos per month. The business was abandoned in 1977 when a second-hand Gunther got more expensive than a new Japanese piano. \n\n Happy to share the stage with the spoken word paragon – Jee Kast!\nSee you on the #5March at #Pianaofabriek\, where thousands of pianofortes were once born under the brilliant fingers of the makers! \nFb Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/415555742417850/

SUMMARY:Performing Arts Festival Groningen 2019
DESCRIPTION:  \nGroningen (NL)\, NP3 – The White Cube\n16 November 2019 h 16.00 \n  \nSO\, WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION \na performance in three parts or acts\,\nwhich is a reflection on a creative relationship and process\na poetic dialogue / made visible / through interactions\nwith oneself\, with the other\, with the audience \nby and with\nMarina Kazakova and Sara Maino \n  \nDid you have a good tête-à-tête with yourself today? What images go through your mind when you’re alone with yourself? Whose hands do you see when getting asleep? \nLet’s add some more questions we usually pose to ourselves: What is it that you say to yourself when you’re driving a car alone? Do you recount your past experiences in your mind? Or are you regretting what you wished you’d said to… you know who? \nOn the whole\, the performance “So\, What Is Your Question” is uneventful. The plot boils down to a dialogue between the two poets: Sara Maino and Marina Kazakova. The main conflict is the clash of the visible and the invisible\, the inner and the outer\, the internal and the external worlds. \nFirst\, we see the poet’s outer – the observer\, who’s dreams\, thoughts and imagination are verbal and out loud. Then\, we see the inner\, claiming its place and revealing itself through the smell\, the emotion of fingers over a typewriter\, through the poet’s eyes and\, most importantly\, through her magic interaction with the spectators. In the end\, we try to feel the balance between the two: the visible (Marina Kazakova) and the invisible (Sara Maino)\, the poet and the spectator\, us and the universe. \nCreation is the experience of the duality of the observer and the observed. Therefore\, in this performance the authors’ point of departure is the interplay of the two selves as well as the interplay between the poet and the world. The idea is a conversation as the core of a creative process\, dialogic structure as the heart of our creative thinking\, and also of building relationships. \nThe authors show poetry as a response to your inner self\, poetry as a response to the presence of someone else in your life\, poetry as a response to the universe\, in general. \nThe stage space in the performance is by no means limited to the stage alone. It is changing between the 2 perspectives\, the external and the internal\, as well as it involves the spectator who is either a part of the scenography or sitting in front of the poet who is writing a poem\, here and now\, for the spectator. In this interactive part of the show the poets pose the following questions: which role does the audience\, the spectator involved have in the action of being observed? Does he/she have any questions at all? \nIn this live poetry act\, the artists display their instant thoughts on their creative relationship and why it and how it has unfolded the way it has\, they come to see that there is a point within ourselves when we turn inward or outward in response to what we experience. The question is: when should we look inward for the power and when should we look outward – or maybe it is the synthesis of the two… In the closing poem ‘L’Uomo Vitruviano’ the poets appear in multiple superimposed positions\, focusing our attention on the problem of the balance within ourselves\, between each other\, between us and the universe…\n___________ \n
