SUMMARY:3rd International Literary Festival - FLII Words of Fire - in honour of the victims of the forest fires
DESCRIPTION:Arte-Via Cooperativa\, based in Lousã\, launches the 3rd edition of the International Literary Festival of the Interior – Words of Fire\, in honour of the victims of the forest fires\, under the motto “Art and culture as revival of a region and of a people”. This festival is sponsored by the Presidency of the Republic\, and CCDRC\, Regional Delegation of Culture\, University of Coimbra\, RBE\, Caring for the Future Foundation and Casa Fernando Namora as associated partners. \nThis is an innovative event\, which will take place in twelve municipalities affected by the fires\, and intends to take books and writers to the most unusual and unpredictable places\, such as factories\, fields\, beaches\, churches\, markets\, locals where people work\, live and socialize\, the books go to meet people because they miss them too. \nDedicated to Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo and the 90th anniversary of her birth\, as well as Fernando Namora and his centenary\, and with the transversal theme “Caring for the Future”\, we intend to address crucial issues for the future of the world\, naming the environmental emergency. This festival brings together the municipalities of Castanheira de Pera\, Figueiró dos Vinhos\, Penela\, Arganil\, Tábua\, Ansião\, Alvaiázere\, S. Pedro do Sul\, the ADFP Miranda do Corvo Foundation\, and the Mário da Cunha Brito\, Penacova Foundation\, the public libraries and school library networks will be essential in the organization of FLII. \nTaking place between 13 and 17 June 2020\, FLII – Words of Fire aims to involve all development agents\, from all participating municipalities\, all local talents\, in all activities to be carried out simultaneously: training\, competitions\, lectures\, workshops\, readings\, book fairs\, shows\, multimedia\, performances\, installations\, exhibitions\, for and with all audiences of all age groups. \nThe concept behind this festival is that of a synergistic achievement\, catalysing the resources of the municipalities and other consortium member institutions\, making the best of each one\, in a joint effort to overcome adversity and\, in the name of the regenerative word\, where there are people there will be books. They will be in the most unexpected places\, at the hands of those who want to read them\, the Portuguese and foreign writers will go to the most amazing places\, the books and words will once again bring colour back into the blackness. \nIn this edition will be launched the book that was awarded in the 1st edition of the literary prize FLII – Words of Fire\, sponsored by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Centre\, and during the month of June there will be again a literary residence\, whose guests will be present in all municipalities. of the consortium. \nThis festival is already partnered by a number of international counterparts: Fraktura\, Croatia\, FliPoços\, Brazil\, Fliaraxá\, Brazil\, Galway Literary Festival\, Ireland\, Vilenica International Literary Festival\, Slovenia\, Salt World\, Cape Verde\, Book Worm\, China\, Moscow International Book Fair\, Russia\, Goa Arts & Literature Festival\, India\, Chepén Chepén Poetry Festival\, Peru\, among others. \n“We will hear the protest wherever it comes\, and in the chorus of dissonant and sometimes antagonistic aspirations we will pay attention to the silence of those who remain voiceless in society. The struggle we are fighting is against time – to push it\, as the poet says\, to meet future cities\, so that new paths are drawn so that they do not unnecessarily walk the path of others’ disenchantment. The place where we fight is here and far. It is our real\, concrete problems of the people we are\, but they are also the problems of the world from afar. Because the whole problem is today universal and planetary… we must accept to share the destiny of the whole humanity. » \nMaria de Lourdes Pintasilgo \nMore on: www.arte-via.org

SUMMARY:“The Earliest Time that Garbage Appeared on Earth is with the Birth of a Printing Press”
DESCRIPTION:It was Brussels Poetry Festival 2017. I entered the legendary Belgian Cafe “La Fleur en Papier Doré”\, the HQ of the Belgian surrealist movement in the 1920s\, where Magritte\, Paul Rouge and Marcel Lecomte were habitués. Now\, 100 years later\, somebody was rocking the room with contagious laughter mixed with “r” words in American accent. There they were: Kat Georges and Peter Carlaftes – the couple who runs “Three Rooms Press”\, a New York-based independent publisher inspired by dada\, punk\, and passion. \nThe couple began the publishing house in 1993\, when they started stapling chapbooks together with their and other people’s poetry. Since then\, they work directly with many of US’s most renowned poets\, including Jack Hirschman\, Carol Dorf\, Lorene Zouzounis\, Robert Duncan – to name a few. ‘Three Rooms Press’ authors include: William S. Burroughs\, Robert Silverberg\, Johanna Drucker\, Julia Watts\, William Least Heat-Moon and Meagan Brothers\, among others. \n“La Fleur en Papier Doré” \nBoth\, Peter and Kat\, aren’t only editors\, but primarily writers and performers. Peter\, born and raised in the Bronx\, the author of 12 plays\, including a noir treatment of Knut Hamsun’s Hunger. In addition to writing poetry\, Kat\, a San Francisco-born NYC-based poet\, has directed numerous Off-Broadway plays and curated hundreds of poetry readings all over the world. \nOur relationship evolved through time since the first encounter at “La Fleur en Papier Doré”. I’ve joined their poetry shows at Magritte’s Museum the next year\, then the ¡DADA! LONDON INVASION at the Horse Hospital in London\, and then in 2019 my happiest moments happened in San Francisco and New York when ‘Three Rooms Press’ did me the greatest honour I could imagine: flying to the US to perform poetry. \nMagritte’s Museum\, Brussels \nThe poets manage a journal of contemporary dada writing and art called “Maintenant”\, which have been featured and sold in museums such as MoMA in New York City and the BelVUE Museum in Brussels. \nWhile the giant publishing houses invest huge sums into ‘celebrity diaries’\, the commitment and passion of the smaller independent firms leave\, sometimes\, a larger footprints in the long term. ‘Three Rooms Press’ is not only a publishing house\, it is a community of people united by common ideas\, literary and aesthetic preferences. \nKat Georges\, Marina Kazakova\, Peter Carlaftes at Spec’s in San Francisco \nInitially\, ‘Maintenant’ journal draws inspiration from the ideas of Dada movement that arose as a reaction to World War I and the nationalism. In addition to being anti-war\, dada was also anti-bourgeois and had political affinities with the radical left. In the present-day context\, the edition’s orientation extends toward’s global history and culture\, the attention to the public purpose of the artist\, and the perception of art as a ‘driving force for social/environmental change’. \nThe 3 decades of interaction and confrontation of Three Rooms Press’s poets and visual artists from around the world reveals the powerful potential of this unique community\, who has been creating a rich and diverse art world during those years\, the fruit of which determine the possibilities for future poetic adventures and development. \nJack Hirschman\, Marina Kazakova at Spec’s\, San Francisco\, 2019 \nIn anticipation of Maintenant 14! This year’s edition is called UN-SUSTAIN-A-BULL-SHIT: reflections on the world which is hurtling in a direction that simply isn’t sustainable. The cover art pieces are all by Walter Robinson in a collage called “THESE ARE OUR CHILDREN” because regardless if our real children will carry on or not in this self-forsaken skin\, these products will remain our progeny. \nMaintenant 14 \nWhat makes us even more delighted is the news that the works of my two friends and mine are accepted for this year’s publication.\nBart Dewolf has put on paper an outstanding drawing entitled “Biodog”.\nSara Maino and me wrote a joint poetry piece called “The earliest time that garbage appeared on Earth is with the birth of a printing press”.  \n___________

SUMMARY:Try It Out Loud - SpeakEasy Spoken Word Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:THEY SOLD MORE THAN 200 PIANOS PER MONTH!\nMy next performance is taking place at a very peculiar place – the GC Pianofabriek in Sint-Gillis\, #Brussels. Here\, years ago\, my poetry journey started – thanks to Philip Meersman\, the big heart who invited me to Poetryfest.Brussels. \n100 years earlier\, the venue was a piano factory\, built by order of the German family Gunther\, piano builders who settled in Brussels in 1845. They were among the first to produce high-quality pianos with a metal frame and later\, by cross-mounting the ’cordes croisées’ of the strings\, they obtained a specific sound that made them win various prizes. Between the two world wars\, all Belgian music schools had Gunthers at their disposal.\nAfter the Second World War the factory was bought by the family Vanderelst. The company was one of the largest piano builders and repairers in Europe. In the peak years\, they employed more than 100 people and sold more than 100 pianos per month. The business was abandoned in 1977 when a second-hand Gunther got more expensive than a new Japanese piano. \n\n Happy to share the stage with the spoken word paragon – Jee Kast!\nSee you on the #5March at #Pianaofabriek\, where thousands of pianofortes were once born under the brilliant fingers of the makers! \nFb Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/415555742417850/

SUMMARY:Performing Arts Festival Groningen 2019
DESCRIPTION:  \nGroningen (NL)\, NP3 – The White Cube\n16 November 2019 h 16.00 \n  \nSO\, WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION \na performance in three parts or acts\,\nwhich is a reflection on a creative relationship and process\na poetic dialogue / made visible / through interactions\nwith oneself\, with the other\, with the audience \nby and with\nMarina Kazakova and Sara Maino \n  \nDid you have a good tête-à-tête with yourself today? What images go through your mind when you’re alone with yourself? Whose hands do you see when getting asleep? \nLet’s add some more questions we usually pose to ourselves: What is it that you say to yourself when you’re driving a car alone? Do you recount your past experiences in your mind? Or are you regretting what you wished you’d said to… you know who? \nOn the whole\, the performance “So\, What Is Your Question” is uneventful. The plot boils down to a dialogue between the two poets: Sara Maino and Marina Kazakova. The main conflict is the clash of the visible and the invisible\, the inner and the outer\, the internal and the external worlds. \nFirst\, we see the poet’s outer – the observer\, who’s dreams\, thoughts and imagination are verbal and out loud. Then\, we see the inner\, claiming its place and revealing itself through the smell\, the emotion of fingers over a typewriter\, through the poet’s eyes and\, most importantly\, through her magic interaction with the spectators. In the end\, we try to feel the balance between the two: the visible (Marina Kazakova) and the invisible (Sara Maino)\, the poet and the spectator\, us and the universe. \nCreation is the experience of the duality of the observer and the observed. Therefore\, in this performance the authors’ point of departure is the interplay of the two selves as well as the interplay between the poet and the world. The idea is a conversation as the core of a creative process\, dialogic structure as the heart of our creative thinking\, and also of building relationships. \nThe authors show poetry as a response to your inner self\, poetry as a response to the presence of someone else in your life\, poetry as a response to the universe\, in general. \nThe stage space in the performance is by no means limited to the stage alone. It is changing between the 2 perspectives\, the external and the internal\, as well as it involves the spectator who is either a part of the scenography or sitting in front of the poet who is writing a poem\, here and now\, for the spectator. In this interactive part of the show the poets pose the following questions: which role does the audience\, the spectator involved have in the action of being observed? Does he/she have any questions at all? \nIn this live poetry act\, the artists display their instant thoughts on their creative relationship and why it and how it has unfolded the way it has\, they come to see that there is a point within ourselves when we turn inward or outward in response to what we experience. The question is: when should we look inward for the power and when should we look outward – or maybe it is the synthesis of the two… In the closing poem ‘L’Uomo Vitruviano’ the poets appear in multiple superimposed positions\, focusing our attention on the problem of the balance within ourselves\, between each other\, between us and the universe…\n___________ \n

SUMMARY:Call It Hate Conference\, Budapest
DESCRIPTION:International Conference\nLGBTI PEOPLE AND VIOLENCE IN EUROPE:\nSTUDYING ATTITUDES\, CHANGING MINDS\nSeptember 26 and 27\, 2019\nBudapest\, Hungary\nPoets from Italy\, Portugal\, Belgium\, Russia\, Poland\, Germany\, Scotland will recite their poetry piece  to unite and empower national and local organisations as well as individuals who are active in the implementation of victims rights on the internet. SUMMARY:I THINK ABOUT YOUR HANDS at St Mark's English Church\, Florence\, Italy
DESCRIPTION:Marina Kazakova & Slow Bear \n“I Think About Your Hands” | An evening of Poetry and Music \n  \nSt.Mark’s English Church \n10 September 18:00 \nAs the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s death is commemorated this year\, a Belgium-based artistic duo Marina Kazakova & Slow Bear prepared a poetry programme inspired by and devoted to the great artist and his gorgeous country. \nThe hands drawn by da Vinci in his portrait paintings as well as his famous study of arms and hands probably represent the most exquisite visualisation of hands in the history of art. \n“Guarda\, se tu credi…” Look here\, can you believe it? \nThese are the words of Leonardo about hands… When we think of da Vinci’s paintings we always think of the compelling presence of hands. Think of the calm of Mona Lisa’s hands\, The Last Supper\, Lady With An Ermine… \nThe hands is the theme that Leonardo deals with on the level of sensory impulses\, thus opening a space not only for analyses but also for a poetic insight. \nHands do communicate the inner rhythms and truths we can’t quite put into words or we hide behind the words\, and in the context of ‘trying to understand someone’ they more straightforwardly confirm the identity of the speaker\, and\, by extension\, his/her emotional pattern. \nThe evening will feature the ongoing collaboration of a Russian-born and Belgium-based poet marina Kazakova and a Belgian DIY-folk musician Slow Bear. Marina will perform a selection of poems inspired by da Vinci’s works\, Italy and also Russia\, each poem accompanied by a unique guitar composition. The selected poems reflect the scope of human emotion\, as well as relevant issues facing present-day world of Europe: hate crimes\, migrants\, discrimination\, body commodification. \nWelcome to St Mark’s English Church\, Florence! \n \n  \n  \n  \n

We are trying to show how easy it is to sit down with someone who may have opposing views to you and still find so much in common. \nThe evening begins at 20:00 with the 10-minute group intention which aims at countering hate by projecting a certain thought. The session will be conducted by Inge Demuynck a coach and a healer\, inspired by Lynne Mc Taggart\, currently working with small and large groups showcasing how the power of group intention can heal our lives and change the world for the better. \nThe session will be followed by the main artistic part: spoken-word/poetry performances (Inke Gieghase\, Béné Kusendila\, Marina Kazakova\, Nathaniel Molamba & @Le Mot: Lame) + live music show by Slow Bear and Oubys. This part invites audience to an individual’s self-reflective process. \nThe final part of the event is exchanging thoughts and feelings on the happening while having a chance to observe visual art works by Bart Dewolf (Inmodis) exhibited at the venue and to speak directly with the artist. \nLINE-UP:\n20:00 – 20:10 Inge Demuynck@ – 10-minute Group Intention session\n20:10 – 20:40 Nathaniel Molamba & Le Mot : Lame (poetry+live music)\n20:40 – 20:50 Inke Gieghase (poetry)\n20:50 – 21:00 Béné Kusendila (poetry)\n21:00 – 21:10 Political Live Act by Marco V.\, Jeroen H. en Wim H. brengen Hans K.\n21:10 – 21:20 Marina Kazakova (poetry)\n21:20 – 21:50 Slow Bear (diy-inspired psychfolk)\n21:50 – 22:20 Oubys (analogue electronic music virtuoso)\nBart Dewolf | Inmodis (scrap metal installations) \nFINIX Free Cultural Zone is located in Hasselt\, Helipoststraat 43B\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/533602210485561/

SUMMARY:Symposium "From Performance to Action and Back Again"
DESCRIPTION:The Symposium central theme is the  intra-action between the document and its users. \nSlow Bear (acoustic guitar) and I (live poetry reading) will present a series of poems demonstrating how we use poetry and music to document the reality of now. \nSlow Bear and Marina Kazakova – Live Poetry show \nAn extract from the description of the symposium’s theme by the artist  Sherwin Kianersi\, the organiser of the event.\n“Live performance is essentially an ephemeral medium: it involves actions that take place at a specific time. Mostly the artist focuses on her own action\, presence\, and subjectivity. Performances are almost always presented in public; they are enacted by people (or by machines operated by people); and they are experienced through direct engagement with the performers\, to reduce the distance between the performer and the viewer (which usually makes the viewer aware of the change in dynamic and in the aesthetic of the work). Many if not most artists choose to document their performances. Some write chronicles\, some create objects to commemorate actions\, and some use photographs\, audio recordings\, video\, and other electronic media. Documentation is especially important to performance because of the latter’s ephemeral nature. After the live act is over\, what remains for consideration\, future study\, and historical memory\, is the document. Normally\, to document an action means to fix it\, to arrest it in time”.

SUMMARY:'Maintenant' Poetry Evening at The Horse Hospital (London)
DESCRIPTION:Marina Kazakova (poet) and Slow Bear (live guitar) will perform their fresh poem collection at ‘The Horse Hospital’ in London \nThe team of ‘Maintenant’ and numerous contributing poets will celebrate the publishing of the next issue ‘MAINTENANT 12’. \nMaintenant is an annual journal that features the most significant contemporary dada writing and art from around the world. Inspired by the original Maintenant\, an irreverent and risk-taking ‘zine published\, edited and allegedly written by Arthur Cravan from 1913-1917\, the Three Rooms Press editions aim to bring to light cutting-edge poetry and art that stems from this original spirit. Since 2005\, Three Rooms Press’ Maintenanthas developed an international reputation as a primary source for Dada work by well-known and emerging artists. \nThe new issue\, MAINTENANT 12: A JOURNAL OF CONTEMPORARY DADA WRITING AND ART (978-1941110652\, 200 pages\, Three Rooms Press\, June 5\, 2018\, $19.95)\, features work that explores the theme “We Are All A ‘Like.’” With the rise in social media use—and abuse—the concept of “like” has reached whole new levels. There’s the idea of an individual’s reaction to events\, people\, images\, etc. as a reduction to “Like” or “Dislike” without need for deeper consideration. Then there is the status factor: that something which is “Liked” by the largest number of people is of value. The concept\, while simple\, has innumerable ways of looking at it. \nMAINTENANT 12 features provocative cover art by MacArthur Fellow artist Nicole Eisenman. Inside\, the work of nearly 200 artists and writers from six continents storms the pages.

SUMMARY:A JUMP INTO FREEDOM. THE STORY OF RUDOLF NUREYEV
DESCRIPTION:The Theater of Sergei Yankovsky presents a play ‘A Jump into Freedom’ with the participation of the leading ballet dancers. A Jump into Freedom is a unique combination of theater and ballet performance. The spectators will be able to learn about quite different sides of Nureyev’s personality: a lonely boy from an evacuated family\, an ambitious student of a choreographic school and a self-confident accomplished dancer. A combination of drama and classic dance presented by the celebrated ballet dancers creates an inimitable atmosphere of the dancers’ life behind the scenes\, choreographic schools\, rehearsal halls and the best international ballet venues. \nThe play was first presented to the public in February 2007 and later was shown in many cities and towns in Russia and abroad. The part of Rudolf Nureyev was acted by Sergei Yankovsky\, a talented and charming actor. In order to recreate the air of the age and the atmosphere of the ballet dancers’ everyday life and to render the character of young and energetic Nureyev in a true to the fact fashion Sergei Yankovsky studied classic dance at a ballet studio picking up the habits and manners of real ballet dancers. The famous dancer Ilze Liepa has noted: “Sergei Yankovsky is a brilliant impersonator; he gets into the role to such an extent that I can only wonder if he is a dramatic actor or a ballet dancer.” Yankovsky’s ballet studies culminated in the scene of a classic dance lesson\, which was staged so skillfully that even the connoisseurs of ballet art believed that it was performed by a professional ballet dancer. In recognition of his work Sergei Yankovsky was awarded a special prize “For splendid rendering of the role of Rudolf Nureyev” at the Amur Autumn Festival\, one of the major art events in Russia. The performance is held with the participation of the People’s Artiste of Russia Ilze Liepa and the leading dancers of the Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky Theaters. \nTheatre du Vaudeville\, Brussels
