Marina Kazakova (b. Gorky, Russia, 1983) is a Russian-born Belgium-based poet. Her literature works deal to a large degree with confrontation with the past and explore the challenges posed both by memory and grief.
Published internationally in magazines and journals (Three Rooms Press “Maintenant”, “Great Weather for Media…”, “Crannog”, “Duck Lake Books”, “Writing in a Woman’s Voice”, “Modern Literature”), Marina is a frequent performer, she has been shortlisted at various international poetry festivals and art events: Brussels Poetry Festival 2017-2018; Maintenant’s Dada London Invasion 2018; XpoNorth 2018, Inverness, Scotland; Antwerpen Queer Arts Festival 2019, Belgium; Nothing To Sell 2019, Macro Asilo, Rome, Italy; RE:Sponse 2020, Groningen, The Netherlands; Maintenant’s Dada Invasion 2020, online, New York, USA; Stanza Scotland’s Poetry Festival 2021, online, Edinburg, Scotland; Mani Lit Fest 2021, Mani, Greece; The 34th Gerard Manley Hopkins International Literary Festival 2022, Newbridge, Ireland.
She is the author of the verse novel “Tishe…Piano”, the film adaptation of which was shortlisted for the Leuven International Short Film Festival in 2013, the Miami Indie Wise Festival in 2018, XpoNorth Festival in 2018, and received ‘The Best Narrative Short’ Award at the 2015 International Film Festival behalf Savva Morozov in Moscow.
Marina holds a Master’s degree in Public Relations and an Advanced Master’s in Transmedia. Currently, she is Communications Officer at Victim Support Europe (Brussels) and working on her practice-based PhD in Arts at Luca School of Arts (KULeuven).
