The KnowHate evening is a cosy soirée for the energies of poets, artists, musicians and journalists, established and not. It is a place where words, sounds and visuals are most important. An evening in which all manner of human beings are welcome to acquire the knowledge and critical understanding of the issues of hate, discrimination and human rights through an engaging artistic approach.
La soirée KnowHate soirée est une chouette soirée où nous nous réunissons contre la haine et les discriminations à travers des performances, de la musique et de la poésie.
This time we organise it at BIESTEBROEKBIS, the abandoned basement of the academy of fine arts in Anderlecht. This basement is slowly but surely becoming a brand new ‘Spontaneous Action Zone’: a meeting place where different socio-cultural projects and activities are organized. BiestebroekBis is the initiative of the Belgian non-profit Toestand that aims at reactivation of forgotten or abandoned buildings, terrains and (public) spaces by means of temporary and autonomous socio-cultural centres.
In the social and political current climate of Belgium, bringing people together is essential. We are trying to show how easy it is to sit down with someone who may have opposing views to you and still find so much in common.
The evening begins at 19:00 with the 10-minute group intention which aims at countering hate by projecting a certain thought. The session will be conducted by Inge Demuynck a coach and a healer, inspired by Lynne Mc Taggart, currently working with small and large groups showcasing how the power of group intention can heal our lives and change the world for the better.
The session will be followed by the main artistic part: poetry performances + screening of film-pooetry (Jamie McGavin, Tom Driesen, Inke Gieghase, Béné Kusendila, Marina Kazakova, Diren Agbaba) + live music show by Slow Bear and Oubys. This part invites audience to an individual’s self-reflective process.
The final part of the event is exchanging thoughts and feelings on the happening while having a chance to observe visual art works by Bart Dewolf (Inmodis) exhibited at the venue and to speak directly with the artist.
