We began at the real beginning,
With love.
We discovered it covered completely
By vast olive groves,
Among the Maniots,
Inhabitants of Mani Peninsula,
They lived in house-towers
To defend the loved ones
Against the armies of William II Villehardouin
And later against the Ottoman Empire.
The Greeks used not just one,
But six words
To portray love-
First ‘Eros’, then ‘Philia’,
Next ‘Agape’,
Later ‘Pragma’, Philautia and Ludus.
Dancing with strangers all night,
A dream that extends your hand
To someone
To get no feeling of touch
In order to let you know
That being aware
of this dream and love
Is to be no longer slumbering.
