When the tide came in,
You started swimming,
But not like I had seen
Before –
More underwater
Than over,
Still your eyes wide open,
A tiny dolphin you were,
Then, when something yellow
In the sky
Revealed the truth,
You crouched forward
To touch the wet sand
As the sea
Was talking
To the blissful sun dawn,
Not by words,
But by your whole
You imbued the waves,
The wind,
The me in them,
With green, with long, with forte, with cuore…
Was it a ritorno?
A true ritorno to a new-born?
